Planting at Pourewa Stream
As the sun came up over the lively Pourewa Stream, there was an exciting buzz in the air, kicking off a community-driven effort to bring our local ecosystem back to life. People from all walks of life came together, each bringing their own skills and a shared passion for this important mission. Tere and Nathan led the planting team, teaming up with Clare and Rachel from Horizons to tap into their expertise and resources for a successful planting day.
With Jock expertly using his tractor to unload the first batch of riparian plants, we had over 5000 fresh saplings ready to be planted along the streambanks. Each of these little plants symbolizes hope for our waterways and showcases the community’s spirit. As we prepped the rich soil and nestled the first plants into their new homes, it was clear that this day was a major step forward for reforestation and the start of a lasting bond with nature, proving our dedication to nurturing a thriving ecosystem for future generations.
The support from the Department of Conservation and the enthusiasm of everyone involved highlight the positive changes taking root, deepening our connection to the land we cherish and making sure it stays healthy for years to come.
